I love to photograph a home wedding and there are so many reasons for this. Firstly, by getting married at a family home, your venue is instantly super sentimental. Secondly, it offers a totally new setting for me to capture. And thirdly, I often find you get some of the most customised celebrations with a home wedding - couples aren't afraid to put their stamp on it!
That was certainly the case for Phoebe and James, who married at their family home in France. Their wedding was heaps of fun from the word go, so I'm very excited to share their story with you today.
Phoebe & James's home wedding in France
The festival styling of this couple's home wedding set the tone for the entire day. Guests were welcomed by a daisy-dotted chalk sign before taking their seats on hay bales in the orchard for the ceremony.
A rainbow ribbon backdrop created a focal point for their vows, complemented beautifully by the floral throws over the bales.
Phoebe and James created a totally modern twist on the white wedding for their tipi reception. Festoon lights hung from the ceiling alongside huge white balloons. The wooden furniture had a stylishly rustic look, with the tabletops left bare to show off the warm tones of the wood.
Tall candelabra and flowing arrangements of foliage with just a few white blooms added a bohemian feel. Because the tipi was left open-sided, the entire reception was surrounded by stunning rural views and a sea of smiling sunflowers!
The bride looked incredible in a strapless, sweetheart A-line gown with the prettiest lace appliques. Her father accompanied her down the aisle in a pale blue, three-piece suit and cream hat - the perfect choice for their laid-back home wedding.
The ceremony itself was full of laughter and smiles - a romantic, happy moment that was a joy to capture.
After the ceremony, we took some brilliant wedding party photos while the Champagne was poured. Phoebe, James and their family and friends were such fun striking a pose. In a fantastic twist on tradition, they also chose to invite all their guests into the confetti photo. The result was amazing and so perfect for their festival theme!
Because it was a home wedding, the couple's dog was also able to join them. Wearing a pink collar co-ordinated to the groom's shirt, we captured some super sweet family photos for them.
Perfectly matched to their French location, Phoebe and James cut into a sparkler-topped croquembouche for their wedding cake. Then it was on with the record player and onto the dance floor, ready for a long night of festivities to begin!
